SHELLS SECTION |

First of all
what is a Shell Replacement. A SHELL REPLACEMENT
is a program that replaces Windows' default shell (explorer.exe) and gives your
desktop a whole new look and feel, customisable to your whims. Here you will find all the
major players in the shell game. |

WARNING:
Microsoft does not endorse or support any of the following software. Most, if
not all of the shells bellow are beta ( so you cant kill the author(s) if they screw your
system). That doesn't mean they aren't great though. Hell most of these shells are more
stable than Windows' default shell. Just remember to
always read your docs! Have fun! |

LITESTEP |
|
Litestep has to be the most
popular shell replacement around. It offers extensive customization and is reletively easy
to configure. The most well rounded shell out there. Definately my personal fav. Originally
created to mimic the Afterstep window manager for Linux, Litestep has evolved far beyond
its original intent. If your looking for the shell with the largest theme selection and
userbase, this is the shell for you.
The link provided on the title above is to the LSD(LiteStep Distro) site. This site
offers the newbie friendly Distro install. |

Reveal |

|
If you are confident in your
configuration skillz and want to totally change the look of everything in your gui, this
is the shell for you. We're talkin' user definable everything. An absolute must for the
power tweaker. The above link is to the Reveal homepage. |

E-Sense |
|
Are you a big fan of the
Enlightenment window manager for Linux. Tired of seeing screenshots that make your crappy
windows desktop look less than adequate. Well Enlightenment has been ported to windows as
E-Sense. E-Sense even supports Enlightenment themes! Only one drawback. It only runs on
NT. So for all yyoue Win9X users, sorry but this shell isnt for you. Above link
on title is to the E-Sense home page. |
